San José, Costa Rica. November 13, 2025. Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) announced the registration of 40 new patents developed at its Research and Development (R&D) Center in
Costa Rica, reinforcing the country’s role as a growing hub for technological innovation within the company’s global ecosystem.
The patents cover algorithms and processes that optimize data flow across wired and wireless networks, delivering greater speed, security, and efficiency for everyday activities such as video calls, content streaming, and critical digital operations for businesses around the world.
“
This is a historic milestone for both HPE and Costa Rica. These 40 patents are tangible proof that our country doesn’t just execute: We innovate with creativity and vision. Behind each of them is Costa Rican talent that’s transforming how people, businesses, and societies connect across the globe,” stated José Luis Uribe, Senior R&D Manager for HPE Costa Rica.
Since opening in 2008 with just four engineers, HPE’s R&D Center in Costa Rica has evolved into a multidisciplinary team that plays a vital role in the company’s global portfolio. Today, more than 35 local engineers – most of whom graduated from Costa Rica’s public universities and national STEM programs – have contributed directly to the development of these patents.
Vanessa Gibson, Investment Climate Director at
CINDE, stated: “
This achievement confirms that Costa Rica is far more than a destination for operations: The country has the potential to become a strategic hub for creating intellectual property in advanced technology. In recent years, the maturity of our innovation ecosystem has allowed leading companies like HPE to locally develop globally impactful solutions. These results highlight both the quality of Costa Rican talent and the country’s position as a reliable partner in the global digital economy.”
Innovation with a Costa Rican SignatureSome of the patented innovations even carry Costa Rican names, such as the “Pacuare” integrated circuit, in recognition of the key role played by local talent. This milestone underscores HPE’s commitment to continuing the expansion of its
R&D capabilities in the country, at a time when artificial intelligence, digitalization, and network complexity are advancing at unprecedented speed.
HPE confirmed that additional patents are already under review and that this achievement marks only the beginning of a new era of innovation from Costa Rica.
