Heredia, August 23, 2021. The multinational corporation
NI (National Instruments) invested $2.8 million in the expansion and renovation of its Costa Rican operations. The growth will support the tech company’s presence in the country and is expected to bring an additional 80 jobs.
The company made the announcement this morning during the tenth-anniversary celebration in the country, attended by the President of the Republic, Carlos Alvarado Quesada. He was pleased with the investment and the generation of quality jobs in electrical and electronics engineering, information technology, finance, digital marketing, and operations, among others.
President Alvarado highlighted that NI –a company operating in such sophisticated areas– has found in Costa Rica a strategic partner to establish operations in the country in the last ten years. In addition, the international magazine fDi Intelligence has confirmed the country's good investment climate and highly qualified human talent in a study recently published that places us as the country with the best performance in pioneering investments worldwide.
"The announcement of this important investment in new offices, as well as the high-tech laboratory, will allow the company to continue growing and generating stable and quality jobs," added President Alvarado during his visit to the company.
Because of this investment, NI renovated its facilities in the Ultrapark II free trade zone, located in Heredia. In addition, it set up an advanced engineering laboratory, ergonomic workspaces with all the necessary safety measures, meeting rooms, collaboration leisure spaces, and ample parking. For this purpose, the company contracted 90% of all services and materials from Costa Rican suppliers, mainly small and medium-sized companies.
NI, headquartered in Austin, Texas, has developed software-connected automated test and measurement systems that enable engineers to solve the world's toughest challenges for more than 40 years.
The Minister of Foreign Trade, Andrés Valenciano, emphasized, "For us, the news of NI's expansion is a source of great satisfaction. In these ten years that the company has been in the country, it has found highly dynamic conditions that favor its growth and constant reinvestment, hand in hand with our human talent. In Costa Rica, the company currently employs 425 people, 20% above the number expected for 2022. That demonstrates the company’s fast and successful growth of its operations in the country.

STEM Education
As part of its tenth-anniversary celebration, NI also launched a US$100,000 to support STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) educational projects of two non-governmental organizations. The selection process is ongoing, and the winning NGOs will be announced in October.
